🌻 Making Norfolk Inclusive — A New Project for Our Community

As SEN parents, we know how challenging it can be to find places where our children are understood, welcomed, and supported — without judgement or barriers. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce a new community-led initiative from Autism Explorers, called Inclusive Norfolk.

This project is about making real, lasting change in our local area. It’s about creating a Norfolk where our children, and others with additional needs, can be themselves — whether they’re visiting a café, attending an event, or just popping to the shops.

💛 What is Inclusive Norfolk?

Inclusive Norfolk is all about helping businesses across Norfolk become more aware, more accessible, and more accepting of neurodivergent individuals — including autistic people, those with sensory processing differences, ADHD, and other additional needs.

It’s not just awareness. It’s not just tick-box inclusion. It’s about building genuine understanding and making practical, meaningful changes so that families like ours don’t have to “prepare for battle” just to go out for the day.

✨ Our Aims

We want to:

Help local businesses understand autism and other neurodivergent experiences.

Support them with simple, low-cost changes that make a huge difference.

Encourage more spaces to offer quiet times, clear signage, and staff who just get it.

Celebrate businesses who are doing it right — and help others get there too.

Create a local culture of belonging, not just tolerating.

🌈 What Does This Mean for You?

If you’re a parent or carer of a neurodivergent child, Inclusive Norfolk means:

More accessible and accepting places to visit.

Less explaining, less stress, more freedom.

The chance to shape the future of inclusion by working with us.

A growing network of businesses that truly care — and are trained to show it.

We’re working on providing window stickers, a digital directory of inclusive venues, and free training materials for staff — so you’ll know where you’re welcome before you even walk through the door.
